WIG OUT

I have a great collection of wigs -- and the reason isn't because I am a performance artist. The reason is because I have collected them over the years, to give to my Norwegian father, Eigil, to wear when he comes to visit.

Eigil is bald, and he loves to laugh. During one of his NYC visits, he arrived at my doorstep wearing a funny wig -- and a tradition was born!!!

It's been over twenty years since our first wig episode, and to this day, I can't go into a wig shop without thinking what it would look like ON EIGIL.

When I was an exchange student living in Norway at age 17, I lived with Eigil, Kirsti, Kathrine and Christoffer. Eigil was a powerful businessman with the kind of joie de vivre that was OFF THE CHARTS. This man WAS celebration; he loved life and people and his family in ways that were mind blowing to me.

This is a man who, for the past 40 years, wakes up early and prepares his wife a cup of earl grey tea and takes it to her bedside, so it is ready for her to enjoy as soon as she opens her eyes. It doesn't matter where they are in the world. He doesn't miss a morning.

This is a man who, when I debuted my show, flew 7 Norwegians to NYC to be present in the audience for my opening night.

A few weeks ago, Christoffer found this picture and sent it to Kathrine with a caption that read, "Father and daughter look alike." And so she sent it to me with the same caption.

I have to agree.
